Groundwork Portland works to bring about sustainable, community-led improvement of the physical environment in low-income areas, while promoting environmental and social justice. Groundwork’s Green Team program engages youth in gaining job skills while building awareness of environmental and social justice through brownfields redevelopment, watershed restoration, and similar projects.
Members of Groundwork’s Green Team participated in an Equity Stories photography workshop in September 2013. Participants interviewed one another about their neighborhoods, their experiences as Green Team members, and their goals in life. Then they took each other’s photos and selected quotes from the interviews that captured the stories they wanted to share.
