OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon

OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon organizes low-income communities and people of color around environmental and transit justice issues. Among its projects, OPAL organizes Bus Riders Unite, an organization of transit-dependent people fighting for equitable and sustainable public transportation in the region.

Leaders from Bus Riders Unite along with a group of OPAL Organizers in Training participated in a series of Equity Stories photography workshops during the summer of 2013. Participants interviewed one another about their experiences as transit riders and then went out into the community to gather the perspectives of other transit riders. Participants photographed the people they interviewed and used photos and captions to document the transit equity issues that emerged from their interviews.
